The Ministry of Education has released official guidelines for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) school selection process. The selection window will run from Monday, 27th May to Thursday, 6th June 2025, during which candidates, parents, and school authorities are expected to make informed decisions regarding senior high school placement.
Under the new directive, each candidate is required to select seven schools—comprising five main choices and two alternative options.
Among the five main school choices, candidates must select:
At least three boarding schools
At least two day schools
Not more than one in Category A schools
Not more than two in Category B schools
For students interested in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, five institutions may be selected across Categories A, B, and C. These can be either boarding or day options, depending on availability and student preference.
Candidates with an interest in science-related fields such as engineering, medicine, and space science are encouraged to consider placement in STEM-focused institutions where specialised training and facilities are available.
A key emphasis has been placed on parental involvement. The selection form must be signed by a parent or guardian and submitted to the candidate’s headteacher. Parents are also advised to retain a copy of the completed form for reference.
The Ministry reminds all stakeholders that school placement decisions are final. Once a candidate is placed in a selected institution, no changes will be allowed.
