Milestone Achievement: North Tongu MP and Partners Commission Safe Alternative Housing Project

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, and his partners celebrated the commissioning of the Safe Alternative Housing Project. The initiative, which began approximately two months ago, was officially commissioned by Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the former President of the Republic of Ghana and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The ceremony took place on Saturday, 10th February 2024, at Holy Christ Area, Mepe, in the Volta Region of Ghana.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities, including His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, who was the first to donate an amount of Seventy thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵ 70,000) to support the project. Also present were Mr. John Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang, who ran alongside Mr. John Mahama in the December 7, 2020 General election in Ghana, VRA officials, victims, and other important personalities.

Mr. Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, delivered a heartfelt address and reassured the people of the Volta River Authority (VRA) affected by the water spillage. He emphasized that the project aims to accommodate approximately 300 victims of the spillage. Mr. John Mahama expressed great satisfaction with the hope provided to the victims of the VRA spillage by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, and his partners through this initiative. Mr. Mahama articulated his gratitude for the MP of North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his partners. He stressed that such an achievement is commendable and worthy of emulation by others.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and a native of the Volta Region, assured the people that he is committed to being there for them as their representative. He emphasized his readiness to support them in both times of joy and difficulty. Furthermore, he announced that a similar project is underway to rescue more victims. He reiterated his commitment to keeping his promises and ensuring that the next project will commence sooner than expected.

The project was named in honor of His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, for his tremendous support towards the initiative. The National Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, expressed gratitude for the recognition given to him by the MP for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his partners.

Ablakwa expressed gratitude to all individuals who contributed to making this initiative a reality, especially the partners for their philanthropic support towards him and the victims of the VRA spillage. He also extended his appreciation to the hardworking contractors, their staff, and all volunteers involved in the project. He concluded with the adage, ‘In this together, rising together.’
