Eleanor Effe Amanor, affectionately known as Mama Effe has officially retired from radio broadcasting as she celebrates her 65th birthday whiles she concluds a remarkable 28-year career that has profoundly influenced Ghanaian media and society.
As the host of Nhyira FM’s flagship program, ‘Obra’, Mama Effe became a household name who was renowned for her empathetic storytelling and unwavering commitment to social advocacy. Her broadcasts transcended entertainment, serving as a platform for community empowerment and national dialogue. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Mama Effe was honored with the Lifetime Achievement in Media Excellence Award at the 2025 Career Excellence Awards in the Ashanti Region by celebrating her exemplary leadership and dedication to societal growth.
Beyond the studio, Mama Effe’s philanthropic efforts have left an indelible mark. In 2023, she funded and donated three mechanized borehole water projects to the Kyerekrom community in the Ashanti Region addressing critical water access issues. Her humanitarian work earned her the title “Queen of Humanitarian Affairs” by the Prince Hampel World Outreach in 2022 by acknowledging nearly three decades of service to humanity through media and community engagement.
Culturally, Mama Effe’s impact was celebrated by the Adanwomase community known for its Kente weaving tradition. They honored her by naming a special Kente cloth “Lady Amanor” in 2024, as it marked the third time a Kente design has been dedicated to her.
As she steps into retirement, Mama Effe’s legacy endures beyond the power of media to inspire, educate, and transform lives. Her voice may no longer grace the airwaves daily, but the echoes of her influence will resonate for generations to come.
