Malawian Government Launches Irrigation Farming Projects to Boost Food Security

The Government of Malawi, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has introduced irrigation farming projects to ensure food security in the country.

As part of efforts to ensure the success of these projects, the Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, inspected the Bwanje Valley and Nambuna irrigation schemes in the Dedza District.

Reports suggest that the Minister was impressed with the progress and development of the projects following his inspection.

In a brief address at the project sites, the Minister reiterated that the aim of the initiative is to provide food security and enhance the incomes of smallholder farmers in the country.

He also indicated that the initiative is expected to support over 10,000 farmers through sustainable agricultural practices.

Kawale further emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting irrigation farming systems in Malawi.
