President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his appreciation to the Council of State for its thoughtful handling of petitions concerning the potential removal of the Chief Justice. Addressing members of the Council at Jubilee House, the President acknowledged the complexity of the matter and praised the body for discharging its constitutional responsibility with professionalism and maturity.
Describing the situation as “a difficult issue” for his administration, President Mahama said the Council’s role brought needed balance to a matter that could have caused tension within the country’s democratic framework. He commended the advisory body for rising above partisanship and acting in the national interest.
“This has been a difficult issue, but I am grateful to the Council of State for fulfilling its mandate with such wisdom and fairness,” the President remarked. He further assured Ghanaians that his administration remains committed to safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and upholding the rule of law.
The petitions, whose full details have not been disclosed, reportedly questioned the conduct of the Chief Justice and prompted calls for removal. The Council of State, acting within its constitutional remit, assessed the concerns and offered its advice to the presidency after careful deliberation.
President Mahama concluded by urging all stakeholders to maintain trust in the country’s democratic institutions and reiterated his government’s dedication to transparency and good governance.
