The Kumawu Traditional Council, led by Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, the Kumawumanhene, together with Nana Serwaa Amponsah, the Kumawumanhemaa, has officially announced to the general public a thanksgiving service scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2026. This spiritual gathering is intended to express gratitude to God for the successful celebration of the revered Papa Nantwie Festival.
The thanksgiving service will take place at the Kumawu Lorry Station and is expected to commence at 9:00 a.m. Residents, traditional authorities, and well-wishers are warmly invited to attend and participate in this moment of reflection and appreciation.
It is important to note that Kumawu marked a historic milestone with the revival of the Papa Nantwie Festival after a 19-year hiatus, with the last celebration having been held in 2007. The 2026 edition of the festival symbolized a renewed commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Kumawuman.
The festival was officially launched on Monday, March 2, 2026, setting in motion a series of well-organized cultural and traditional activities. All scheduled events were executed successfully, leading up to the grand climax held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Akyerema Palace. A significant highlight of the climax was the traditional cutting of the Nantwie, which took place at Papaase on the same day, in accordance with long-standing customs.
Adding to the excitement and vibrancy of the celebrations, popular Ghanaian musicians Shatta Wale and Medikal delivered electrifying performances on the evening of the climax, attracting large crowds and enhancing the festive atmosphere.
The 2026 Papa Nantwie Festival brought together a diverse group of people, including political leaders, traditional rulers, elders, prominent media personalities, and residents of Kumawu both at home and in the diaspora. Additionally, many individuals from neighboring communities joined in the celebrations, making the event a remarkable and unifying cultural experience for all.
