The Kumawu Traditional Council, headed by Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, has officially announced that it will hold the final funeral rites for Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, the former Kumawuhene. Barima Asumadu Sakyi II passed away in 2007, marking the end of his 34-year reign as king of Kumawu, which began in 1973.
According to reports, his leadership was characterized by dedication to the development and welfare of the Kumawu community, and his legacy continues to resound within the hearts and minds of the people.
The final funeral rites are scheduled to take place from Saturday, October 12, 2024, to Sunday, October 20, 2024. This week-long event will be filled with a series of activities, during which various traditional rites and tributes will be performed in honor of the late king. These activities are designed not only to pay homage to Barima Asumadu Sakyi II but also to bring together the community in a shared expression of grief and remembrance.
Among the highlights of the event will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, which has been officially earmarked for commemorating the late Barima Asumadu Sakyi II. On this date and day, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, the current Kumawuhene, will sit on his throne (Akyerema Palace) to receive greetings from dignitaries and members of the community, both near and far. This gathering will serve as a powerful reminder of the unity and strength of the Kumawu people, as they come together to honor their beloved leader.

The concluding day of the funeral rites, Sunday, October 20, 2024, will feature a Thanksgiving Service organized by the Kumawu Traditional Council of Churches. This service will take place at the Kumawu Roundabout, providing an opportunity for the community to reflect on the contributions of Barima Asumadu Sakyi II and to celebrate his life. The Thanksgiving service is expected to draw a large turnout, as it will serve as a moment of collective reflection, healing and gratitude.
The occasion is expected to converge all manner of people, including traditional leaders, government officials, businessmen and women, and residents of Kumawu and its surrounding communities, both from home and abroad.
Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua is calling on all members of the Kumawu community and well-wishers, both at home and abroad, to come and sympathize with him as he pays his last tribute to Barima Asumadu Sakyi II.
Come and support Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, the Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency, and Hon. Samuel Addae Agyekum, the District Chief Executive for the Kumawu District, as they mourn and pay their last homage to Barima Asumadu Sakyi II.
