Kumawu St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School Holds Awards Ceremony to Promote Holistic Education

Kumawu St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School ‘A’ and ‘B’ in the Sekyere-Kumawu District marked a significant milestone in their academic calendar with a colourful Awards, Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony held on Wednesday under the theme, “Educating the Mind, the Heart and the Hand: 21st Century Requirement for a Successful Life.”

The event brought together pupils, teachers, parents, alumni, and community stakeholders to celebrate academic excellence, discipline, and holistic education.

The two headteachers delivering their keynote speeches, Mr. Vincent Owusu of School ‘A’ and Madam Juliana Fobi Arthur of School ‘B’ emphasized the need to move beyond merely intellectual training. They stressed that 21st-century education must nurture not just the mind but also the heart and the hand to produce well-rounded, morally upright, and skilled individuals.

“Over the years, education has focused almost entirely on cognitive development,” Mr. Owusu stated. “However, we now understand that emotional intelligence, character formation, and practical skills are equally vital in preparing young people for the real world.”

Madam Juliana Fobi Arthur expressed concern over increasing acts of indiscipline in schools across Ghana. “We see students carrying weapons, insulting teachers, or fighting authority. These unfortunate developments must be addressed through a return to core African values and intentional emotional guidance in our classrooms,” she said.

Both heads urged teachers to pay closer attention to students’ emotional needs and behavioural development. They also encouraged pupils to embrace values of respect, obedience, and love, which are essential for building peaceful school environments and responsible citizens.

Outstanding pupils and staff were honoured with awards for excellence in academics, punctuality, discipline, and leadership. The atmosphere was filled with joy and pride as parents and teachers applauded the achievements of the young learners.

The event served as a powerful reminder that true education goes beyond books, it moulds character, cultivates compassion, and develops skills that prepare students not just to pass exams but to thrive in life.
