Kumawumanhene Inaugurates Nursing and Midwifery College Implementation Committee

The vision to establish a Nursing and Midwifery College in Kumawu has taken a significant leap forward following the inauguration of a nine-member Implementation Committee on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

The ceremony was led by the Kumawumanhene, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, and the Catholic Bishop of Konongo-Mampong Diocese, Most Rev. John Opoku-Agyemang. Also in attendance was the Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, who pledged his strong backing for the project.

The Committee has been tasked, among others, to determine a suitable name for the college, secure the necessary accreditation, and establish a timeline for implementation. It will coordinate all aspects of the college’s setup — from infrastructure development to academic planning and stakeholder engagement.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim highlighted the transformative impact of the project on the community and the country at large. “I affirmed that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure our mandate as a Committee is achieved, for the institution which is expected to train a new generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals to serve our nation,” he said.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua praised the collaboration between traditional leadership, the church, and political representatives, noting that education is key to sustainable development. Bishop John Opoku-Agyemang echoed this view, describing the planned college as a beacon of hope for the youth.

Once established, the Kumawu Nursing and Midwifery College is expected to produce hundreds of well-trained nurses and midwives annually, directly contributing to Ghana’s healthcare delivery system and unlocking new opportunities for the people of the Ashanti Region.
