The Sekyere Kumawu District Education Directorate has organized a one-day workshop for all Basic School Headteachers to prepare them for the impending Annual School Census.
The workshop took place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Kumawu Presbyterian Church. Its primary aim was to train headteachers on the modalities and changes in conducting the Annual School Census as mandated by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Nana Kwame Obeng Frimpong, Head of the Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) Department, officially welcomed the participants and opened the workshop on behalf of Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, the District Director of Education for Kumawu.
The facilitators for the session were Mr. Francis Diedong, the District Planning Officer, and Mr. Essilfie Kobina Aidoo, the District Statistic Officer. They guided the headteachers through the critical aspects of the Annual School Census exercise.
During the workshop, the facilitators emphasized that the reference date for this year’s Census is July 31, 2024. They also explained that the Census focuses on three key thematic areas: school details, teacher details, and student details. This categorization allows for the collection of comprehensive data on the basic educational system in the district.
One of the significant updates discussed at the workshop was the introduction of a Web App for conducting this year’s Annual School Census. The facilitators highlighted the advantages of using this technology, including more efficient data collection and real-time updates. They took the participants through a step-by-step demonstration on how to navigate the Web App, ensuring that all headteachers understood the new process.
A question-and-answer session followed the presentations, allowing participants to seek clarification on the new system and other related concerns. The facilitators provided detailed responses to ensure that all attendees fully grasped the information and felt confident in their ability to conduct the Census using the new platform.
The workshop was considered timely and essential, as it equipped the headteachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out the Census successfully. The headteachers expressed their satisfaction with the training and their readiness to implement the new procedures in their respective schools.
Reports indicated that, the Annual School Census is an important exercise that contributes to the planning and development of educational policies in the district and GES in general. The Sekyere Kumawu District Education Directorate remains committed to providing ongoing support and guidance to ensure the successful completion of this year’s Census.
