Kotoko Sack Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum After Poor Run, Karim Zito Set to Take Over

Asante Kotoko has officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum after a disappointing run in the Ghana Premier League. The decision was announced on Monday, April 21, 2025, following what the club described as “constructive discussions” between management and the coach.

Ogum’s exit comes after Kotoko suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC on Sunday, extending their winless run to four consecutive matches. The club now sits fourth on the league table, six points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.

This marked Ogum’s second stint with the Porcupine Warriors. He previously led the team to a league title during the 2021/22 season, but his return in July 2023 did not deliver the same success. In his latest campaign, Kotoko registered 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses from 28 league games.

In a statement, the club expressed appreciation for Ogum’s contributions and urged fans to stay united during the transition.

More updates are expected from the club in the coming days regarding the official appointment and plans for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Kotoko legend Abdul Karim Zito has arrived in Kumasi and is expected to be announced as the new head coach. Zito, a member of Kotoko’s 1983 CAF Champions League-winning team and a former coach of the Ghana U-20 team, is anticipated to bring leadership and experience to guide the club forward.
