The Kade District Court has remanded five students of Kade Senior High/Technical School following the alleged assault of a teacher, Mr. Quayson Michael, an incident that has shocked the local community and reignited national concern about discipline in schools.
At the end of proceedings, four of the students were remanded into prison custody, while one student, identified as a juvenile, was placed in police custody, in line with laws governing minors. The court adjourned the case to 20 January to allow for further investigations.
The ruling was met with deep emotion in the courtroom, as parents of the accused students broke down in uncontrollable tears after the judgement was delivered. Some wept openly, while others had to be consoled, stressing the painful consequences the case has brought upon families involved.
The case arose from an incident in which Mr. Quayson Michael, a teacher at Kade Senior High/Technical School, was reportedly assaulted on campus. The incident has since drawn widespread condemnation from education stakeholders, teacher unions and the general public.
