Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health, has outlined a comprehensive four-week plan aimed at onboarding all health facilities and centres across the country onto the newly built Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS).
According to the Health Minister, the rollout of GHIMS marks a major step toward the government’s vision of creating a fully digital health record system that enhances data management, coordination, and efficiency in healthcare delivery. He disclosed that Ghana currently has about 950 health facilities and centres, all of which are expected to be integrated into the system within the stipulated four-week period.
Hon. Akandoh stated that the process will be executed in phases. During the first week, the focus will be on Teaching Hospitals, Regional Hospitals, and highly populated District Hospitals. In the second week, the onboarding process will extend to the remaining District Hospitals across the regions. The third week will cover Polyclinics, Health Centres, and CHPS Compounds, ensuring that smaller community-level health facilities are also captured.
The fourth and final week has been designated for mop-up operations, to ensure that every health facility and centre is successfully connected to the GHIMS platform.
Hon. Akandoh emphasized that the successful implementation of this plan will significantly reduce paperwork, improve data accuracy, and enhance communication among health institutions nationwide, thereby transforming Ghana’s healthcare system.
