BSTEM Launch in Sunyani

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has launched the BSTEM training programme in Sunyani.

This initiative embodies a significant national investment dedicated to fortifying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education from the foundational level.

In his brief address, Hon. Iddrisu indicated that the initiative is pivotal for Ghana’s future as the country transitions from rote memorization to inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and creativity, providing every Ghanaian child with the opportunity to realize their potential. He emphasized that Ghana will continue to equip its educators with modern skills, digital tools, and innovative teaching methodologies to make STEM education engaging and accessible to young learners. This endeavour, he noted, will foster curiosity and lay the groundwork for future scientists and innovators.

“I must extend my gratitude to Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who, during her tenure as Minister for Education from 2012 to 2016, spearheaded the establishment of a committee. The committee’s review culminated in the creation of the Basic Science and Mathematics Project, which has since evolved into the BSTEM Project. Our government is committed to modernizing education by revolutionizing science and mathematics, incorporating AI, coding, and robotics as integral components of our revised curriculum at the foundational level.”

“As the adage goes, a curriculum cannot succeed without contemporary teacher training that empowers educators with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to deliver STEM education at all levels.”

The Minister for Education also announced the government’s intention to establish a state-of-the-art laboratory facility in Koforidua in memory of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
