Accra Hearts of Oak is reportedly in discussions with seasoned coach Maxwell Konadu to potentially take over the head coach position as the club considers transitioning current coach Aboubakar Ouattara to a technical director role ahead of the new season.
Ouattara who signed a two and a half year contract with Hearts in February 2024, has been at the helm since replacing interim coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru. Despite the club’s efforts to stabilize performance, they finished the first round of the Ghana Premier League in 11th position with 21 points which prompted a reevaluation of the technical team’s structure.
Maxwell Konadu, a respected figure in Ghanaian football with a rich coaching résumé including stints with Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities, and the Ghana national teams at various levels. Notably, he led Nsoatreman FC to their first ever MTN FA Cup victory in the 2023/24 season as they secured a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. In July 2024, Konadu accepted a three year deal to coach South African side Black Leopards, aiming to guide them back to the top flight. His appointment was inspired by the successes of African coaching legends like Pitso Mosimane which reflected a growing recognition of African coaches on the continent.
While Hearts of Oak’s interest in Konadu indicates a desire to revamp their coaching strategy, it remains uncertain whether Konadu will accept the role with respect to his recent commitment to Black Leopards. The club’s management has yet to make an official statement regarding the potential coaching changes. As the new season approaches, Hearts of Oak supporters await clarity on the club’s direction, hopeful that any changes will restore the team’s competitive edge in the Ghana Premier League.
