Health Ministry Activates Contingency Measures to Manage Nurses’ Strike Impact

Ministry of Health has announced the activation of additional measures to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services as the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) enters a critical phase.

In a statement released on 10 June 2025, the Ministry acknowledged the inconvenience the industrial action may be causing the public and assured Ghanaians that steps are being taken to minimise disruptions, particularly in health centres where services have been significantly affected.

“The Ministry has engaged all appropriate channels to negotiate the smooth implementation of the new Conditions of Service,” the statement noted. “We remain committed to finding a resolution that supports both the well-being of our healthcare workers and the needs of the general public.”

Officials said that in line with government’s broader objective of building a healthy population for national development, interim measures are being rolled out to fill service gaps at hospitals and clinics.

The Ministry urged the public to continue accessing health services at designated centres where care remains available, including private and mission-based facilities. A full list of such centres has been published online to guide the public.

“We know these are challenging times, but your health remains our top priority. Let us all remain calm and supportive as we work together to navigate this period,” said Isaac Ofei Baah, Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry informs the public that negotiations with the leadership of GRNMA are ongoing.
