The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed on their facebook post that the highly anticipated 2025/26 Ghana Premier League will open on the weekend of September 12, 2025 with the campaign, and ends in late May 2026. The decision aligns the domestic season with the upcoming FIFA World Cup, slated for June to July 2026.
The season opener is set for the weekend of Sept 12, 2025, and the final matchday will take place on the weekend of May 23–24, 2026, which shall ensure completion before the World Cup. According to the FA, player registration for all GFA competitions, including the Premier League, begins on June 23 and ends on August 24, 2025.
In line with previous seasons, Sunday matchdays will remain standard, with midweek slots reserved for any outstanding fixtures.
The entire football calendar which shall cover the Premier League, Division One, Women’s Premier League, FA Cup, Futsal, and Beach Soccer will officially span from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. One of the key kickoff events is the Champion of Champions match on August 31, 2025, where Bibiani Gold Stars (league champions) will face Asante Kotoko (MTN FA Cup winners).
The FA reiterated that this year’s league will also welcome three newly promoted clubs such as Techiman Eleven Wonders, Swedru All Blacks United, and Hohoe United, adding renewed excitement to the top flight.
Fans, clubs, and stakeholders now have a clear roadmap for the season ahead setting the stage for an action-packed campaign in Ghana’s top-tier football competition.
