Honourable Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s public lands during the Minister’s Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Information in Accra.
The briefing was moderated by the Minister for Information, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar.
During the briefing, Hon. Jinapor firmly addressed allegations of state capture made by certain individuals against the current administration. He asserted that these claims are unfounded and not supported by any available facts or data from the Lands Commission. The Minister emphasized that every land transaction conducted under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership has adhered strictly to the established land administration laws.
Hon. Jinapor noted that the digitization of land records and the formation of a special task force are pivotal initiatives in this regard. The digitization project aims to streamline land record management, reduce bureaucratic delays, and improve accessibility to land information. Meanwhile, the special task force is designed to address and investigate fraudulent activities, thereby fostering a more transparent and accountable land administration system.
Hon. Jinapor stressed the critical importance of collaboration with traditional authorities and local communities. He pointed out that engaging these stakeholders is essential for the effective protection of public lands. Traditional leaders and local residents play a crucial role in monitoring and reporting potential land encroachments and abuses, thereby supporting the government’s efforts to preserve these lands for future generations.
The Minister also made an appeal to the Judiciary, urging it to expedite land-related cases. He hammered on the necessity of swift legal action to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s public lands.
The government’s commitment to this cause reflects its dedication to maintaining the country’s natural resources and upholding the principles of justice and equity in land administration, he said. Hon. Jinapor concluded the briefing with the assurance that the Government remains steadfast in its mission to protect Ghana’s lands.
