Governing Board for National Early Warning Centre inaugurated.

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in a 12-member Governing Board for the National Centre for the Coordination of Early Warning Systems, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s national and regional security through early warning and crisis response.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday, 2nd May, 2025 with President Mahama emphasizing the importance of proactive threat detection and timely intervention in safeguarding the country.

Chaired by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the Board includes key cabinet ministers with portfolios linked to security and crisis management. Members include the Ministers for the Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Health, Environment, Communications, Justice, and Transport. Also on the board is the Coordinator of the Centre, Colonel Emmanuel Sampson.

The Centre was established under Act 1070 (2021) to bridge the gap between early warning signs of crises and effective, rapid responses. Its work spans not only national concerns but also threats emerging across the West African subregion.

The Centre is mandated to deliver timely and actionable threat alerts, with a strong focus on human security. It works in collaboration with government agencies, civil society, and development partners to build a coordinated and responsive national early warning system.

“This board represents a critical component of our national security architecture. Its work will be pivotal in ensuring we are prepared and able to respond effectively to emerging threats,” President Mahama said.
