Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician, Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko, has issued a heartfelt plea to President John Dramani Mahama, appealing for assistance after revealing that he has gone without food for three days and is struggling to care for his family.
In a widely shared video, Evangelist Nyarko, who publicly declared support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections and composed the party’s campaign song “Sankofa”, said his open affiliation has come at a heavy personal cost.

“Ever since I released the song for the NDC, I’ve been blacklisted in the Ashanti Region. Event organisers no longer invite me, and people treat me with hostility. I’ve been left to suffer,” he lamented in tears.
The gospel artiste disclosed that his family is enduring severe hardship and that all efforts to seek support have yielded no results. He alleged that support promised by individuals within the NDC never reached him, leaving him to face his challenges alone.
“I have children. I am hungry. I’ve not eaten in three days. I’m begging you, President Mahama. Don’t let me suffer like this,” he said emotionally.
The video has stirred conversation on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over the musician’s wellbeing and urging the NDC leadership to intervene.
Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko’s story is a sobering reminder of the risks faced by artistes who openly support political causes, often finding themselves isolated or sidelined in their communities.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from President Mahama or the NDC regarding the musician’s situation.
