Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has sworn in a seven-member executive of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) into office.
These executives, who were sworn in, are expected to serve for the next three years.
The newly sworn-in executives include Simon Agianab (Dean), Stephen Odoi-Larbi (Vice Dean), Kwaku Sakyi-Danso (General Secretary), Ibrahim Alhassan (Organizing Secretary), Francis Ekow Annan (Deputy Secretary), Deborah Dzivenu (Treasurer), and Emmanuel Kwaku Ansah (Ex-officio Member).
During the event, the Rt. Hon. Speaker emphasized the crucial role these new executives play in disseminating parliamentary-related information to the public.
In his short address, the Speaker stressed that the media’s role in informing the public and voicing their concerns is comparable to the parliamentary business of MPs championing the interests of their constituents.
“It is not for nothing that you have been elected as executives to lead the way forward and chart the course of this group,” he stated.
He noted that the high attrition rate among journalists in Parliament affects not only the PPC but also Parliament as an institution, impacting the reporting of parliamentary activities.
“This is why capacity-building exercises are very opportune and timely. Journalists in Parliament serve as the first information vehicle to the outside world and must always be in a position to provide accurate accounts of parliamentary proceedings,” he said.
The Dean of the PPC, Simon Agianab, expressed his appreciation to the Rt. Hon. Speaker on behalf of the newly sworn-in executives for his continued support of the Corps.
