The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a press release to inform the general public—particularly stakeholders in Ghana’s gold trading sector—about the commencement of licensing for Service Providers, effective Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

According to the release, all Ghanaians aged 18 and above, or fully Ghanaian-owned companies, may apply for a license from GoldBod either online via the official website, goldbod.gov.gh, or in person at the licensing office located at GoldBod’s main office in Accra.

The available categories of licenses include:

  • Aggregator License
  • Self-financing Aggregator License
  • Buyer License (Tier 2)
  • Buyer License (Tier 1)

Other licenses—such as Refining License, Smelting License, Fabrication License, Storage License, Transportation License, Importation License, among others—will be available for application starting July 2025.

The statement noted that all relevant information regarding GoldBod’s mandate, policies, and operations can be accessed via its official website: goldbod.gov.gh.

The release emphasized that all applicants must carefully read, understand, and accept the Terms and Conditions of a license before proceeding with the application.

Additionally, the letter reiterated GoldBod’s earlier directive for all foreigners to exit the local gold trading market by April 30, 2025. Any breach of this directive shall constitute a punishable offense under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140), it stated. However, a foreigner may apply to GoldBod to off-take gold from the Board.

In line with its mandate to oversee and regulate the gold trading sector, GoldBod reaffirmed its directive for all gold traders to buy and/or sell gold at the official Bank of Ghana (BoG) Reference Rate published at bog.gov.gh.

GoldBod looks forward to working with all stakeholders to restructure and streamline the gold trading sector for optimal national benefit.

The statement concluded by urging the public to cooperate fully, while assuring continued efforts to prioritize stakeholder feedback.
