Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Governors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID)—a major step that elevates Ghana’s influence within West Africa’s top development finance institution.
The appointment was confirmed during a high-level meeting of the bank’s Board of Governors, comprising Finance Ministers and Economic Planning heads of ECOWAS member states. As Chair, Dr. Forson will now guide the bank’s strategic direction and play a key role in financing infrastructure and economic growth projects across the 15-member bloc.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Forson said the role marks a turning point for regional economic collaboration. “I am honoured by the confidence reposed in me. This is not only a win for Ghana but for all of West Africa as we work to unlock inclusive and sustainable development,” he stated.

EBID is tasked with financing priority sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, and industry. Dr. Forson’s experience in economic policy and public finance is expected to strengthen the bank’s push for greater investment and regional integration.
Ghana’s Ministry of Finance described the appointment as a proud moment that reinforces the country’s leadership in shaping the region’s development agenda.
