Ghana Unites in Grief at State Funeral for Eight Fallen Heroes of Helicopter Crash

Ghana came together in solemnity on Friday, August 15 to honour eight heroes who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on August 6. The inter-denominational State Funeral, held at Black Star Square in Accra, drew a cross-section of the nation from grieving families and political leaders to religious dignitaries and ordinary citizens.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President H.E. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, alongside Speaker of Parliament, Members of Parliament, Members of Council of State, former Presidents and former Vice President, former First and Second Ladies, Chiefs, International Diplomats, Political Parties, Religious Leaders, and sympathisers from across Ghana and global joined in the tribute.

Heartfelt messages poured in from widows, children, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, the National Chief Imam, the Ghana Armed Forces, and community leaders also paid their respects. Each tribute reflected not only personal loss but a collective national grief.
