State funeral for Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has assured the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings that she will be honoured with a state funeral in recognition of her service as the First Lady of Ghana.

In a brief statement, President Mahama highlighted the immense contributions of the former First Lady, particularly through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which significantly impacted communities across the country.

He acknowledged Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, having served for 19 years – a record he noted can never be broken under the current Constitution, which allows a maximum of eight years for any future First Lady.

President Mahama further assured the family of the government’s full collaboration in ensuring that the late Nana Konadu receives a befitting state burial in honour of her distinguished service to the nation.
