Ghana Police Begins Training of 12,000 Community Police Assistants

The Ghana Police Service has officially commenced the training of 12,000 Community Police Assistants (CPAs) across its various Police Training Schools nationwide, in a major step toward strengthening community-level law enforcement.

The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ghana Police Service and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in May this year. Under the agreement, the YEA will recruit and sponsor the training of young Ghanaians to support the police in promoting peace and preventing crime in communities.

At the launch of the training programme held at the National Police Training School in Tesano, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, emphasised that the programme is not only about law enforcement but also about building trust and collaboration between citizens and the police.

“This training will instill values of integrity, discipline, and service in our young people,” Hon. Terlabi said. “The aim is to foster partnerships, enhance community safety, and empower our youth to become custodians of peace.”

The Director-General of Human Resources at the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Frederick Blagodzi, highlighted the importance of the programme in strengthening the critical link between the police and the public. He encouraged trainees to remain focused and uphold professionalism and mutual respect in the execution of their future duties.

Chief Executive Officer of the YEA, Mr. Malik Basintale, expressed appreciation to the Police Service for its commitment to the initiative. He stressed that the programme offers young men and women a valuable opportunity to make meaningful contributions to national peace and security while acquiring life-long skills.

The Community Police Assistants, once trained, will be deployed to various communities to assist in crime prevention, improve visibility, and help enhance public confidence in law enforcement.
