Ghana Increases Cocoa Producer Price by 12% for 2025/26 Season

The Government of Ghana has raised the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season on Thursday, October 2, 2025 , offering farmers a 12% increase in what officials describe as a step to protect livelihoods and reward hard work.

From Friday, 3rd October, farmers will receive GH¢3,625 per bag or GH¢58,000 per tonne, up from GH¢3,228.75 per bag and GH¢51,660 per tonne set in August. This translates into an additional GH¢400 per bag.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who chairs the Producer Price Review Committee, said the increase is part of government’s ongoing effort to ensure cocoa farmers share more fairly in Ghana’s economic progress.

“This adjustment is about safeguarding livelihoods and strengthening the backbone of our cocoa sector. Our farmers deserve to benefit from the fruits of their hard work,” Dr. Forson said.

Support measures for farmers remain in place. These include free fertilizers, spraying machines, insecticides, fungicides, and flower inducers to improve productivity.

Looking beyond immediate gains, COCOBOD has announced plans for a Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, expected to begin in the 2026/27 academic year.

The government says its broader goal is to sustain a resilient cocoa industry—one that secures family incomes, empowers future generations, and reinforces Ghana’s role as a leading global producer.
