The school is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast, which is expected to take charge of the curriculum for teaching, examination and award of certificates to graduating students.
Meanwhile, GAFCONM also runs diploma programmes for Registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery, which is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, in a speech read on his behalf by UCC’s Director of Academic Affairs, Dr Atta Yeboah-Sarpong, said UCC would regard the college’s students as an integral part of its academic community.
He indicated that “the partnership underscores UCC’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and ensuring that students receive a well-rounded and globally competitive education.”
The VC affirmed that through the partnership, UCC would ensure excellence in teaching, research and professional training, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the healthcare sector.
Prof. Boampong described the introduction of the two programmes as a bold step and a forward-thinking approach to aligning nursing and midwifery education with global standards.
He encouraged the Board of the college to “take advantage of the 37 Military Hospital, a tertiary healthcare facility, to develop and introduce specialised bachelor’s degree and even postgraduate programmes”.
In his address as the special guest of honour, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi urged the students to be great ambassadors of the school as its pioneers in the Bachelor of Science programmes and not subject themselves to the unnecessary pressure of social media.
“You are the first batch to commence the degree programmes. The College is a place where you enjoy a lot of freedoms, but that freedom often comes with some corresponding obligations,” he said.
Air Cdre Adu-Gyamfi urged the students to know their rights and protect them, while also ensuring that they do not trample on the rights, privileges and freedom of others.
The acting Principal of GAFCONM, Major Bright Attah Addae, said the college was committed to ensuring that it gave the best academic training and character to the newly admitted students.
He urged the students to know that they were admitted for their heartfelt commitment, empathy and academic promise, as they embark on their transformative and rewarding journey ahead at the college.
