The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) organized a two-day capacity-building workshop on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and Thursday, July 11, 2024, for heads of Senior High, Senior High Technical, and STEM schools from the Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, and Upper West regions in Tamale. This workshop aimed to equip the heads of these institutions with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their management and leadership capabilities.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of GES, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, the Deputy Director General in charge of Management Service, and other directors from the GES headquarters attended the workshop.
The participants undergo training in a wide array of skills crucial for effective school management. These included strategic management, legal issues, guidance and counselling, auditing, and the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act. The comprehensive training was designed to address the diverse challenges that school heads face in their roles and to provide them with the tools needed to overcome these challenges successfully.
The workshop also provided a platform for the heads of schools to network and share experiences, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among the educational leaders from different regions. This interaction was seen as a valuable opportunity for the participants to learn from each other and to develop a support network that can be beneficial in their professional roles.
In addition to the technical training, the workshop sessions included discussions on current trends and best practices in educational management. The participants were encouraged to adopt innovative approaches to address the unique challenges they face in their respective schools. The discussions were aimed at fostering a proactive attitude towards problem-solving and continuous improvement in the management of their schools.
Dr. Nkansah expressed his confidence in the positive impact of these training sessions on the education management and leadership skills of the school heads. He emphasized that the improved skills would ultimately lead to enhanced performance and better learning outcomes for students. He stated, “I am confident that these training sessions will greatly enhance the education management and leadership skills of our Heads of Schools, ultimately leading to improved performance and learning outcomes.”
