The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that Friday, 6th June 2025 will be observed as a public holiday for all Basic, Senior High, and Senior High Technical Schools across the country in celebration of Eid ul-Adha.
In a letter issued on 3rd June 2025, signed by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Acting Deputy Director-General (Q&A), the GES directed that heads of schools should allow students who wish to travel home and celebrate with their families to do so. However, the GES clarified that the break is optional, and students who choose to remain on campus must be appropriately supervised.
All students permitted to travel are expected to return to campus on Sunday, 8th June 2025, to ensure a prompt resumption of academic activities the following week.
The GES urged Regional, Municipal, and District Directors of Education to disseminate this information to all schools under their jurisdictions and ensure its effective implementation.
“This directive is to enable our students and staff of the Muslim faith to observe the Eid ul-Adha celebration peacefully,” the letter noted.
