The Ghana Education Service (GES) has formally approved standardized guidelines to govern the operations of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all Senior High Schools. This new directive is expected to strengthen school-community relations, enhance accountability, and ensure fairness in the running of PTAs nationwide.
According to GES, the guidelines are designed to streamline PTA activities so that they align with national education policies. By doing so, the Service believes schools will be better positioned to deliver on their core mandate of providing quality education for all students.
Transparency and accountability are central to the new directive. GES emphasized that PTA funds must be managed with integrity and used strictly for purposes that directly improve teaching, learning, and student welfare. The aim is to build trust among parents and ensure that contributions make a real impact in schools.
The guidelines also highlight the importance of collaboration. Stronger partnerships between parents, teachers, and school management will create an environment where challenges are addressed collectively and the needs of learners are prioritized.
Uniformity across schools is another key aspect of the reforms. All PTAs in Senior High Schools are now required to operate under the same structure and framework. This, GES explained, will prevent inconsistencies and ensure that every institution upholds the same standards of accountability and efficiency.
Regional, Municipal, and District Directors of Education have been tasked to oversee the implementation of these guidelines. Heads of Senior High Schools are expected to ensure strict compliance and submit quarterly reports on PTA activities, allowing for closer monitoring and evaluation.
Approved-Guidelines-for-PTAs-in-SHSsGES has called on all stakeholders to treat this directive with the urgency and seriousness it deserves. The Service expressed confidence that the guidelines will enhance school-community partnership, improve the use of resources, and ultimately strengthen the delivery of quality education across the country.
