The Jamasi and Ejisu Deaneries of the Catholic Youth Organisation (CYO), under the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, held a week-long mega jamboree at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Agona-Asamang, from Tuesday, 26th to Sunday, 31st August 2025. The event was guided by the theme: “A Time To Proclaim Christ, Hope For The Church and Ghana.”

The jamboree brought together hundreds of young Catholics, known as Crusaders, for a vibrant programme of worship, learning, and cultural activities. Central to the gathering was the celebration of Mass and a series of talks delivered by distinguished personalities and life coaches.Among them was Chief Superintendent (Snr. Cru.) Martin Assenso, the Municipal Police Commander of Tepa and Parish President of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ahodwo-Kumasi, who urged the Catholic Church to invest more in the CYO as a foundation for strong youth ministry.

Snr. Crusader Opoku Joe Andrew, former Diocesan CYO Chairman and Vice President of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Boanim, addressed participants on the theme of the jamboree. He called on the youth to be steadfast in proclaiming Christ and to see themselves as active bearers of hope for both the Church and Ghana. His words resonated deeply with Crusaders, many of whom embraced the jamboree as a defining moment in their spiritual journey.

The event also focused on the social challenges facing young people. Mr. Peter Mensah, a Clinical Psychiatry Officer at SDA Hospital, Asamang, led a powerful advocacy session on drug and substance abuse, warning against its devastating effects on individuals, families, and the nation.

Rev. Fr. Sylvester Frimpong, Headmaster of Our Lady of Grace SHS, Mamponteng, further encouraged Crusaders to live purpose-driven Christian lives rooted in discipline and service.

Alongside the spiritual and social teachings, organisers introduced practical skills training. Crusaders participated in a hands-on tutorial in pastry-making, designed to equip them with entrepreneurial knowledge and the confidence to establish themselves economically.

This initiative was praised by participants as a forward-looking intervention that balanced faith with livelihood empowerment.

Spiritual enrichment was combined with cultural and recreational activities.

A night of praise and worship led by Rev. Fr. Isaac Nti Asamoah lifted hearts in song and prayers, while the Rev. Sisters of OLA Congregation inspired many young women to consider religious vocation.

Crusaders also competed in quizzes on Church doctrine, scripture, and current affairs, as well as in sporting activities such as volleyball, soccer, sack races, and hiking, designed to test their fitness, teamwork, and unity.

The jamboree also celebrated Ghana’s cultural heritage. Crusaders showcased traditional dances, songs, attire, and languages, reflecting the rich diversity of the nation. They took part in a clean-up exercise in the streets of Asamang, proudly living out the CYO’s motto: “For God and Ghana.”

The climax of the jamboree was a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Gabriel Parish, where Crusaders, parishioners, and diocesan leaders gathered to thank God for a successful programme.

Certificates of achievement and proficiency badges were awarded to parishes and individuals who excelled in competitions, academics, communal service, and national development initiatives.

The jamboree concluded with a colourful parade through the principal streets of Asamang, as Crusaders proudly marched with CYO colours, the Ghana Flag, the Papal Flag, and the CYO Flag.
