Hon. Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has assured Ghanaians that they can expect a reduction in the cost of data by the end of 2025.
According to Sam George, his ministry, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the telecommunications sector, is working to ensure that data becomes more affordable before the year ends.
This assurance was given during his keynote address at the commemoration of the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on Monday, May 19. The event was held under the theme, “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation.”
Some sections of the Ghanaian public have already raised concerns on social media, claiming that the task force set up in February has failed to achieve any reduction in data prices. However, the Minister clarified during his address that the committee’s mandate was not to reduce tariffs directly, but rather to develop a roadmap to guide the process.
He emphasized that the committee – established in February 2025 and composed of representatives from telecom companies, the regulator, and other sector players – was tasked with developing a strategic plan to facilitate a reduction in data prices, not to implement the price cuts themselves.
Mr. George urged the public to remain patient, emphasizing that the government is working tirelessly to make this vision a reality for the Ghanaian citizenry.
