Education Minister to Outline School Selection Guidelines for 2025 BECE Candidates in National Address

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, will on Tuesday, 27th May 2025, deliver a national address to provide comprehensive guidelines for the selection of senior high schools by Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.

The address, scheduled for 10:00 AM on GTV, forms part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to ensure a smooth, transparent, and well-informed school placement process for students transitioning from junior high to senior high school.

This year’s guidelines will serve as an official roadmap for headteachers, teachers, parents, and guardians involved in supporting BECE candidates with the school selection process. It is expected to address common challenges and provide practical advice on choosing appropriate and competitive schools based on students’ academic strengths, career aspirations, and catchment area considerations.

Key issues to be covered during the address include:

The number of schools candidates are expected to select

Categories and classifications of senior high schools

Special considerations for technical and vocational education

Regional balance and equity in placement

The role of parents and teachers in guiding student choices

Updates on the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)

The Ministry is encouraging all stakeholders in the education sector to tune in to the live broadcast, as the address will provide critical information to help avoid errors and misunderstandings during the selection period.

In a brief statement ahead of the programme, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu emphasised the importance of inclusive and informed decision-making.

“This stage is crucial in shaping the future of our students. We want every child, regardless of their background, to make a well-informed school choice that aligns with their talents and ambitions,” he said.

The school selection process plays a vital role in Ghana’s broader educational development, ensuring fair access to quality secondary education for thousands of young learners across the country.
