Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu Orders Dismissal of Teachers Involved in Exam Malpractice

Ghana’s Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a firm directive to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately dismiss any teacher found to be involved in examination malpractice, especially those using mobile phones to aid students during exams.

This directive follows growing concerns about the integrity of the country’s assessment systems, particularly the increasing use of technology to facilitate cheating. According to the Minister, such conduct threatens the credibility of the education sector and undermines efforts to instill discipline and honesty in learners.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the International Community School in Kumasi, reminded educators of their vital role in shaping the moral and academic foundations of future generations. He warned that any teacher who promotes, enables, or condones cheating must face the consequences of their actions.

“Our teachers are not just instructors; they are character-builders,” Hon. Haruna Iddrisu stated. “Allowing malpractice in the classroom defeats the very purpose of education.”

The Minister also appealed to parents to take greater responsibility in monitoring their children’s use of mobile devices. He observed that unchecked access to technology has become a significant contributor to dishonesty in schools. He encouraged guardians to guide their children toward values of truthfulness and integrity.

This call to action has been welcomed by many as a necessary step to preserve trust in Ghana’s education system. Stakeholders have praised the Minister’s strong stance as a signal of renewed commitment to ethical standards in both teaching and learning.

The Minister emphasized that building a culture of integrity requires collaboration from all teachers, parents, and students. “We must all rise to the occasion and protect the future of our children through discipline and honesty,” he concluded.
