Actress and 2024 NDC parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, has received President John Mahama’s nomination as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) in the Greater Accra Region. Her nomination, made under Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended, now awaits vetting and confirmation by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
If approved, Ebi Bright – who also has a background in diplomacy will join a slate of presidential appointees set to be formally introduced across Ghana, subject to assembly endorsements.
In a January interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ebi Bright recounted challenges she faced when launching her political career. She revealed that her “Cantata” acting origins became a source of ridicule.

“I was told point blank that politics is not for ‘cantata’ people like me. I remember one man saying, ‘Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts?’”
Bright said, adding that overcoming such bias could inspire other creatives to enter public service
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s decision on her confirmation is expected in the coming weeks.
