Dr. Patrick Nomo has officially resumed his role as Chief Director of Ghana’s Ministry of Finance, marking a return to the Ministry after a two-year stint at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
He replaces Ms. Eva Mends, who had served as Chief Director since April 2023. Ms. Mends, a respected economist and the first female to hold the position, played a central role during one of the most turbulent periods in Ghana’s recent economic history.
At a staff durbar to formally introduce Dr. Nomo, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson praised Ms. Mends for her pivotal contributions, particularly in securing Ghana’s current IMF Extended Credit Facility programme and leading debt restructuring efforts. He noted that her calm and focused leadership was instrumental during the peak of the economic crisis, and her work laid the foundation for the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilise and grow the economy.
Welcoming Dr. Nomo, the Minister described him as “a dedicated and experienced civil servant with deep institutional knowledge,” and urged all staff to support his leadership as the Ministry continues its economic recovery drive.
Both Dr. Nomo and Ms. Mends have extensive backgrounds in public finance and budgeting, having served previously as Directors of the Budget Division of the Ministry.
The transition is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the Ministry’s leadership as Ghana seeks to navigate the next phase of its economic reset agenda.
