Ghana’s Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called on university students to actively participate in political discourse and national development efforts.
Speaking at an event organised by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Friday, April 4, Dr. Adutwum highlighted the transformative potential of youth engagement in politics.
The event, dubbed “Tektalk – Echoes of Greatness,” brought together speakers from various sectors to engage students on the theme of national transformation through politics, finance, and entertainment.
Dr. Adutwum reminded students of their critical role in shaping the nation’s future, urging them to see politics as a platform for service rather than self-interest.

“Politics can be a force for growth if political actors think outside the box and prioritize the interests of the larger population on whose behalf they control national resources,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure as Education Minister, Dr. Adutwum cited the government’s massive investments in STEM and TVET education as part of its broader transformative agenda. He also mentioned the provision of modern classrooms with advanced computer and science laboratories at the basic school level, describing it as a bold step toward ensuring quality education across the country.
He encouraged students to develop a growth mindset and consider politics as a means of leaving a legacy for future generations.
