Confusion Rocks EC Headquarters Over Dome Kwabenya Parliamentary Results, Re collation Process is Uncertain

EC

Tensions have reached a boiling point at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Accra as stakeholders, party agents, and concerned citizens gather to demand clarity on the unresolved parliamentary results for the Dome Kwabenya constituency. The atmosphere is chaotic, with live broadcasts on TV3 and other stations capturing scenes of frustration, arguments, and mounting pressure on the EC to provide answers.

The controversy stems from discrepancies in results from key polling stations in Dome Kwabenya. On December 19, the EC nullified the parliamentary election results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North, citing irregularities, including missing pink sheets and unverified figures. While re-collation exercises were initiated  they have been suspended for Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North due to unresolved documentation issues.

At the EC headquarter  party agents and stakeholders have been locked in heated exchanges accusing the Commission of failing to uphold transparency. Protesters holding placards have called for immediate action, urging the EC to ensure the integrity of the process.

Eyewitnesses report heightened security around the EC premises  with law enforcement agencies working to maintain order. Media outlets have described the scene as a “political standoff,” with both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) representatives trading accusations.

The inability of the EC to finalize the results for Dome Kwabenya is raising questions about Ghana’s electoral integrity. With 274 parliamentary results already officially announced  but the delay in resolving outstanding constituencies risks undermining public confidence in the electoral process.

Stakeholders are demanding urgent intervention from the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, to resolve  the misunderstanding  and ensure fairness. Analysts warn that prolonged delays could lead to heightened political tensions and potential unrest.

The EC must act swiftly to:

1. Address the documentation gaps, including the missing pink sheets.

2. Reconcile misunderstanding  in polling station results transparently.

3. Reassure the public and stakeholders of its commitment to democratic principles.

This developing situation highlights the need for robust electoral reforms to prevent such challenges in future election.
