The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson.
The visit aimed to gain insight into ongoing projects and international collaborations between the UK and KNUST, while also commending the University for its significant contributions thus far.

“The partnership between Ghana and the UK is one that we prize very highly. It is a long-standing, deep, and wide-ranging relationship, and one of the reasons it works so well is because it extends far beyond government-to-government engagement,” Her Excellency noted.
She further expressed her commitment to identifying key areas for expanded collaboration.
“We want to understand what’s working for you, where you would like to see changes, what those areas might be, and how we can collaborate further to deepen the partnership in the future,” she added.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dickson reaffirmed the strong relationship between the two countries and expressed gratitude for the various capacity-building collaborations that KNUST has benefited from through partnerships with UK universities over the years. She also emphasised the importance of expanding these engagements.
“We continue to build internal capacity, but nothing should stop us from giving our young people opportunities for diversity and cultural exchange, it is essential. Cultural exposure enriches human existence,” she stated.
She went on to highlight key ongoing projects at KNUST supported by UK partners, including the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL), the SHINE Project, the Ghana Goals Project, the FarmSense Project, and scholarship programmes such as the Commonwealth and Queen Elizabeth Scholarships, among others.
Principal Investigators of these initiatives shared updates on their progress and expressed interest in exploring further collaborations with the British High Commission and other UK-based institutions.
