Ghanaian entrepreneur Abu Trica arrested over alleged US romance scam

Ghanaian entrepreneur Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following a US indictment linked to an alleged large-scale romance scam operation.

The 31-year-old is accused of participating in a scheme that targeted elderly victims in the United States, with losses estimated to exceed $8 million since 2023.

US authorities allege that the operation involved coordinated online deception designed to extract funds from victims over time.

Following his arrest, images circulated online showing the luxury vehicles his been flaunting online found at his residence, including a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce, and two Tesla Cybertrucks. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face further legal processes in line with international cooperation protocols.
