Bank of Ghana Terminates Over 100 Appointments Made After 2024 Elections

The Bank of Ghana has terminated the appointments of more than 100 staff members who were recruited after the December 7, 2024 general elections, following a directive from the Presidency.

The affected individuals had reportedly gone through formal recruitment processes including aptitude tests and interviews but were dismissed in response to a circular issued by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah. The directive called for the revocation of all public sector appointments made after the 2024 election.

Though originally intended for ministries, departments, and agencies, the move has also affected key state institutions such as the Bank of Ghana. Sources say the central bank complied with the order to terminate the appointments, citing the need to align with government policy on post-election recruitment.

The decision has sparked concerns among legal experts and civil society groups, who argue that the dismissals may breach constitutional protections and deny affected individuals due process.

Some affected staff from other agencies have already begun legal proceedings, describing the move as politically motivated and a threat to institutional stability.

The Bank of Ghana has yet to issue an official statement on the development.
