In a grand celebration of football, leadership, and national unity, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, emerged victorious over the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo, in a friendly ceremonial contest held as part of the 2025 President’s Cup. The event was held in conjunction with the highly anticipated football match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

The prestigious encounter took place on Sunday, 6th July 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, and was graced by the presence of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. The President’s attendance lent great honour to the event, which brought together football lovers, dignitaries, and citizens from across the country.

Prior to the main football fixture, a symbolic competition between the two Regional Ministers added a unique element of leadership camaraderie to the day’s programme. Dr. Amoakohene’s win was received with much excitement, particularly among supporters of the Ashanti Region, and served to set an enthusiastic tone ahead of the match.

The match itself unfolded with intensity and emotion. Hearts of Oak struck first in the opening half, sending the home crowd into wild celebration. In that moment, Hon. Ocloo’s face lit up with joy, beaming with pride as her region took an early lead. In contrast, Dr. Amoakohene’s expression was measured, reflecting the pressure on his side to respond.

The second half brought a dramatic shift. Kumasi Asante Kotoko equalised with a well-executed goal, reigniting hope among their fans. Just moments later, they scored again to take a 2-1 lead, turning the game on its head. The reactions from both ministers shows that Dr. Amoakohene smiled broadly, visibly elated, while Hon. Ocloo’s earlier cheerfulness gave way to quiet reflection, capturing the highs and lows that make football so emotionally powerful.

The football match itself was keenly contested and lived up to expectations, with Kumasi Asante Kotoko securing a well-deserved 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak. The victory brought immense joy to Kotoko supporters and was celebrated with great enthusiasm both in the stadium and across the country.

The atmosphere was further elevated by a vibrant live performance from celebrated Ghanaian musician, Shatta Wale, whose energetic stage presence and popular hits captivated the audience.

President Mahama was visibly delighted by the performance, acknowledging the crowd and the artist with warm smiles, reflecting his appreciation for the cultural richness of the occasion.
The 2025 President’s Cup stood as a shining example of how sports and culture can foster national cohesion. The participation of senior government officials, musicians, and sportsmen demonstrated the enduring power of football as a unifying force in Ghanaian society.

As the celebrations drew to a close, the event was widely hailed as a success, having combined the best of Ghana’s sports, leadership, and cultural expression. It reinforced the importance of shared national experiences in strengthening the bonds of unity, patriotism, and peace.
