Mampong, Ashanti — June 2025
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in partnership with Transforming Teaching, Education & Learning (T-TEL), has continued its regional training program for Safe Space Focal Persons (SSFPs) across all 142 public senior high schools in the region.
On June 24, 2025, Amaniampong Senior High School in Mampong Ashanti played host to Zone 3 of the ongoing eight-zonal capacity-building workshop. The session recorded full attendance, with all 38 nominated participants from their respective schools showing up for the day’s training.
The initiative, which began on June 16, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on July 4, 2025, seeks to equip teachers and designated officers with essential knowledge and tools to serve as Safe Space Focal Persons in their schools. It is part of a wider agenda to promote safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environments in Ghana’s second-cycle institutions.
At the Mampong training session, participants were taken through several thematic areas including:
The role of Safe Space Focal Persons (SSFPs) in schools, Understanding sexual harassment and its impact on student welfare, Creating confidential and supportive spaces for students to report incidents, Proper handling, documentation, and reporting of harassment cases, as well as Offering emotional and procedural support to affected students.
Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Esther Osei-Owusu stressed the importance of having focal persons to champion the course of safe school environment for students and teachers alike. She urged participants to take full advantage of the training sessions.

Facilitators emphasized the importance of the SSFP role in reinforcing Ghana’s policy against sexual harassment in schools and ensuring student well-being.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Ashanti Regional Education Director, the initiative has received positive feedback from earlier zonal engagements, and similar results are expected across the remaining centers.
This ongoing training is one of several transformative strategies aimed at building trust and safety within the school system and aligns with broader national efforts to protect learners, empower teachers, and uphold professional standards in education.
