Accounting to Director General Forum with Eastern and Volta Regions of Ghana

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) held a one-day engagement on the theme “Accounting to Director General Forum” for selected District and Municipal Directors of Education, as well as Heads of Basic and Senior High Schools from the Volta and Eastern regions of Ghana.

The event was graced by notable personalities including the Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah; the Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu; the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu; the Head of Budget, Mr. Jeremiah Ansah; the Volta Regional Director of Education, represented by the Regional Head of Budget; and other key staff members from the GES headquarters.

According to reports, the primary objective of this workshop was to establish a periodic forum aimed at enhancing education management and accountability through effective monitoring, evaluation, supervision, and reporting. This initiative is designed to ensure that the educational leaders are consistently aligned with the strategic goals of the GES and are able to provide transparent and accountable reports on their respective jurisdictions.

During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to present comprehensive reports on their achievements over the past three years. They highlighted the successes they had realized, the challenges they encountered, and the strategies they were implementing to address these challenges and enhance learning outcomes. The forum served as a platform for an in-depth scrutiny and assessment of these reports, enabling the identification of best practices as well as areas that demand improvement.

One of the key highlights of the forum was the collaborative and transparent nature of the discussions. Participants received valuable feedback and recommendations that are expected to guide future strategies and interventions.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of GES, emphasized the need for a robust framework that ensures all educational leaders are held accountable for their performance. He pointed out that such forums are crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of the education system. Additionally, Mr. Stephen Kwaku, Owusu reiterated the GES’s commitment to supporting educational leaders with the necessary resources and training to achieve their goals.

Mr. Jeremiah Ansah, the Head of Budget, provided insights into the financial aspects of education management, emphasizing the need for efficient budget utilization and financial accountability. His presentation shed light on the various funding mechanisms available and how schools can leverage these to improve their educational outcomes.

According to sources, GES is likely to continue this program in other regions in Ghana.
