Kwame Asare Obeng widely known as A Plus has issued a public apology for comments he made about Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine, the state Attorney. His apology extends to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Parliament, and the Ghanaian public. In his statement, A Plus said “As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine, the general public, the NDC party, and Parliament, and fully retract those words.”
The apology came after backlash over his earlier utterance in which he stated “If you’re not sensible, you are not sensible – it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in Parliament.”This remark widely seen as targeting Dr. Ayine during a live UTV program was criticized as disrespectful and inflammatory. A Plus now an independent MP for Gomoa Central who transitioned from a politically vocal musician to a Member of Parliament. His candidacy and victory were symbolic of the public’s desire for change outside of the traditional party system.
He has recently expressed interest in working closely with the NDC in Parliament, stressing that his main focus is the welfare of his constituents and that his support will depend on the party’s commitment to development. This public retraction is being viewed as a mature step toward healing and reinforcing respectful dialogue in Ghana’s Parliament. It also highlights the growing demand for accountability and civility in public office. As Ghana’s political environment continues to shift, A Plus’s actions reflect both the challenges and responsibilities facing new entrants to governance.
