The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge is an esteemed event that comprises three distinct stages, each offering opportunities for participants to showcase their reading prowess in Asanti Twi and English, and vie for prestigious prizes. Throughout the competition, participants eagerly pursue victory, fueled by the prospect of the awards awaiting them at every stage.
Community Level Competitions (First Stage)
The journey begins with the community level competitions, where enthusiastic readers from various communities gather to demonstrate their literary skills. Winners at this stage not only earn individual recognition but also bring glory to their respective schools. Generously sponsored by esteemed figures such as Nana Konadu Yiadom Kumanin IV (Kona Hene) and Nana Nuben Sra III (Trede Hene), the community champions and their schools are rewarded with GH₵ 500 each. This monetary incentive not only celebrates the winners’ achievements but also contributes to the development of their educational institutions.
The Knockout Stage (Second Stage)
Following the community level competitions, the top performers advance to the knockout stages, a pivotal phase held at the Prempeh College. Here, participants engage in fierce literary battles, striving to secure their place among the elite. At this stage of the competition, five exceptional schools that emerge as the winners, advance to the final stage. The knockout stages also offer a plethora of awards, including both monetary prizes and valuable gifts, to commend the outstanding efforts of the participants and schools.
The Finals (Third Stage)
The culmination of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge unfolds at the Manhyia Palace, where His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other distinguished guests grace the occasion with their presence. This grand finale is a celebration of literacy and learning, as the finalists showcase their talents before a captivated audience. Special awards are bestowed upon deserving individuals and institutions, honoring their exceptional contributions to the competition. The overall best reader will get a scholarship from the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to the tertiary level of education. As the curtains draw to a close on this momentous event, the anticipation for the announcement of the winners reaches its zenith.
As we eagerly await the crowning of the best performing schools at this year’s Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge final completion, we also commemorate the 25th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s reign as king. This milestone serves as a testament to his enduring commitment to education and community development, as well as the enduring legacy of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge in fostering a culture of literacy and excellence.
