The festivities commenced on Monday, 11th March, 2024, and continued through Sunday, 17th March, 2024, with an array of activities lined up to mark this special occasion.
The week-long celebration kicked off with a vibrant float on Monday, parading from the ESHTS campus through Abura to Pedu-Junction in Cape Coast, and back to the school premises. This procession aimed to raise public awareness about the Silver Jubilee celebration of Efutu Senior High School, commemorating its establishment as one of Ghana’s esteemed secondary institutions. Additionally, various events filled the schedule, including a clean-up exercise of the school and its environs, a quiz competition, inter-house football games, a lively Jama night, culminating in the Saturday Grand Durbar and Sunday Thanksgiving Service.
Throughout its illustrious history, ESHTS has consistently excelled academically, notably performing admirably in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The school has also distinguished itself in extracurricular activities, such as quizzes, debates, and athletics competitions. Noteworthy is its participation in the National Science and Maths Quiz and Inter-Colleges Athletics Competitions against high schools in Cape Coast. Moreover, ESHTS has proudly produced outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions across various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, including the Police Service, Immigration, Military, Teaching, and Architecture.
Address by the Headmistress of the School at the Grand Durbar
During the Grand Durbar, Mrs. Wilhelmina Coleman Assan, the Headmistress of ESHTS, delivered a touching address, highlighting the school’s achievements in academics, athletics, and infrastructure development. She expressed gratitude to the dedicated teachers for their unwavering commitment and collaboration with the administration. Mrs. Assan also acknowledged the invaluable support of the school’s alumni and appealed for assistance in overcoming the challenges facing ESHTS, such as inadequate classroom and dormitory facilities, lack of essential equipment in science and technical laboratories, and the absence of an Assembly Hall. She called upon all present, particularly the Old Students, to rally together and address these pressing issues. She specifically appealed to the Honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for support.
Awards and other presents were given to the best-performing students and hardworking teachers at the occasion.
Address and Support from the Other Dignitaries
Distinguished dignitaries, including the Honorable Minister of Education, HON. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Nana Amba Ayiaba I, Queen Mother of Efutu, and Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan, President COA-GPM, graced the occasion with their presence and delivered insightful addresses. ESTOSAs Addresses and Support at the Occasion
The Efutu Senior High Technical Old Students’ Association (ESTOSAs) seized the opportunity to express appreciation to the Headmistress for recognizing the pivotal role of alumni in the school’s administration and anniversary celebrations. They assured continued support and announced plans to establish a committee tasked with soliciting support from alumni worldwide and other educational-focused NGOs. This committee would also oversee the formation of a National Executive to coordinate alumni activities and advocate for unity and stability within the association.
The ESTOSIANS indicated that many boys would have wished to attend this occasion in large numbers, but work and other duties hindered them from doing so.
In a stirring address, ESTOSAs recalled about shared memories and emphasized the importance of giving back to their alma mater. They urged fellow alumni to unite in support of ESHTS, ensuring its continued growth and success. The Old Students concluded by presenting their financial support to the school and pledged ongoing support beyond the anniversary celebration.
