Former Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) 2023 contestant Ohemaa Sappama Angela has broken her silence after a video showing her being confronted by a crowd at Tafo Market in Kumasi went viral.

The former Bono East Region representative has denied stealing anything from the shop, saying the incident was the result of a misunderstanding involving her and her driver.

In a Tiktok video shared online, Ohemaa, the Arts Media Training Institute graduate gave her account of what happened and rejected the theft allegations that have been circulating on social media.

Ohemaa explains what happened

According to Ohemaa, she had gone to Tafo Market with her driver and stopped at a location known as F9.

She said she noticed a piece of fabric at a shop and entered to enquire about its price. However, she claims there was nobody available inside the shop to attend to her.

Ohemaa said she therefore left the shop without purchasing or taking anything.

She later encountered a woman at the entrance who, according to her account, accused her of stealing a dress.

The situation reportedly escalated as more people gathered around her.

Ohemaa said the situation became more complicated because of what her driver did.

According to her, the driver saw a sack at the entrance and loaded it into the vehicle, apparently assuming that Ohemaa had already paid for it.

Ohemaa maintains that she had no knowledge of what was inside the sack and had not instructed the driver to take any unpaid item.

Her explanation comes after footage of the incident circulated widely online, attracting strong reactions from social media users.

Earlier footage showed Ohemaa surrounded by a crowd following the allegations. Some residents intervened and helped move her away from the increasingly agitated gathering.

In the video her wig was pulled off during the confrontation and that she appeared to be struck on the head before residents shielded her and moved her away from the crowd.

The incident has since generated considerable debate, with some people questioning the decision to confront and physically handle her instead of allowing the matter to be investigated through the appropriate authorities.

More allegations emerge

The controversy has continued to develop, with a shop owner and another woman subsequently giving their own account of the incident during a social media live session.

They alleged that several items, including dresses, slippers, dressing bags and a travelling bag, were missing from a shop and claimed Ohemaa was linked to the incident. These claims remain allegations and have not been independently established.

As of this post, there had been no publicly announced police confirmation or formal charge against Ohemaa.

Ohemaa’s response therefore represents her side of the developing controversy, while the allegations made by the shop owner and others remain disputed.
