The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has successfully organized the maiden edition of the 2026 Girls in ICT Day, aimed at equipping young girls with essential digital skills for the future. The event was held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi, under the theme, “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.”
The programme brought together brilliant female students from selected senior high schools across the region. Participating schools included Kumasi Wesley Girls Senior High School, Islamic Senior High School Kumasi, Prince of Peace Senior High School, Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School, and Kumasi Girls Senior High School. Each school actively participated, showcasing their growing knowledge and practical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to reports, the initiative forms part of efforts to prepare the girl-child for the evolving demands of the digital age. Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah, the Ahanti Regional Education Director, emphasized the importance of integrating AI education into the academic journey of students. He expressed his strong commitment to equipping girls in the Ashanti Region with relevant technological skills that will enhance their educational pursuits and future careers.
The event featured presentations, demonstrations, and interactive sessions where students displayed innovative AI-driven ideas and projects. Their performances highlighted not only their creativity but also their ability to apply emerging technologies at the senior high school level.
